Artist Pascale Marthine Tayou has created a pollution awareness art piece by creating a tree that appears to be growing out of a wall and is adorned with colorful leaves, which are actually plastic bags tied to the ends of the branches.
This artwork is on display at the Art Basel's 2015 fair. The work titled 'Plastic Tree' attempts to show viewers what pollution is doing to the planet. Through the act of littering, people are placing toxins into the earth where trees grow and if this continues to happen, the trees will cease in existence much like to rest of the foliage we depend on for oxygen.
The plastic bags appear to represent the suffocation that is taking place in society with a severe disregard for natural environments. This piece of pollution awareness art is beautiful to look at but the deeper meaning is quite heart breaking.
