Artist-Inspired Illuminators

Sebastian Bergne Crafted 'Poise' Based on Work By Isamu Noguchi

British designer Sebastian Bergne created the structural Poise lighting collection with simplistic materials and drew influence from American artist Isamu Noguchi and his work. Specifically focusing on Noguchi's Akari art collection, Bergne used folding techniques to give the illusion of the lamps transforming from flat paper to three-dimensional items. Each lighting fixture is constructed from paper, lead, stainless steel, and cord, with geometric black shapes. These forms give off a soft lighting effect that resembles the illumination within a photography studio.

The Poise lighting series is comprised of pendant lamps, a floor lamp and a table lamp. Bergne originally designed the series for Akari Unfolded: A Collection by YMER&MALTA exhibition. The collection will be showcased at The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, NY until January 27th, 2019.
