Botter's Line of Plastic Waste Fashion Fights the Plastic Crisis

Botter recently joined the fight against plastic with its innovative Spring/Summer 2019 Collection, which features plastic waste fashion. Debuting at Berlin Fashion Week, this collection includes pieces that utilize pool inflatables, fluorescent fishing nets and the logo of a multinational oil company.

The inspiration for the plastic waste fashion pieces came from Botter's founder's Caribbean roots while also drawing on the destruction of the region by global consumption and oil exploration. To accomplish this, Botter accessorized its streetwear garments with colorful scraps of plastics and pieces of clothing that resemble oil slicks.

This juxtaposition of luxury fashion and cheap materials was created as a metaphor for washed-up waste on Caribbean beaches. According to Botter co-founder Rushemy Botter, "We were very intrigued by the lotto houses which you see on every corner of the street in the Dominican Republic and Curaçao."
