The Vegetarian Butcher, the meat alternatives brand owned by none other than Unilever, is launching a delicious new plant-based bacon that offers all the unique texture, oil-releasing traits and delicious flavor profiles of bacon with none of the animal product.
Dubbed 'NoBacon 2.0,' this plant-based bacon is crafted from a combination of soy and wheat protein. However, unlike many other plant-based meat alternatives that may deliver on flavor but fall short on texture, the 'NoBacon 2.0' covers all bases thanks to the fact that its fat is capable of going translucent during the cooking process, which is akin to how actual bacon behaves in the frying pan.
What's more, the fat release traits of this plant-based bacon ensures that it can be fried up without the need to add additional fats, oil or butter in the pan.
Hugo Verkuil, the CEO over at The Vegetarian Butcher, noted that the introduction of products like NoBacon 2.0 isn't merely obviously good news for animals but also offers advantages to the planet. "Taking animals out of the equation makes the food system more efficient and more environmentally friendly," Verkuil said. "Instead of feeding legumes to animals and making meat out of these living creatures, The Vegetarian Butcher makes plant-based meat directly from legumes."
