Latvian airline airBaltic has announced the launch of an all-new NFT-based loyalty program that will be tied to its 'airBaltic Club.' The program will feature a 10,000-piece collection of digital collectibles called 'Planies.' Loyalty program members will be able to use Planies to acquire airBaltic Club points and other travel-based benefits through the company.
Planies will take the form of digitally rendered cartoon artworks, each of which will be a different type of aircraft that will feature its own set of attributes and characteristics.
"With Web 3.0 (also known as Web3) arriving shortly, airBaltic is preparing to develop token-based economics for its frequent flyer program. The NFT technology will help to further digitalize processes, not only within our loyalty program but in other airline action directions too, thus reducing costs and making our work easier," explained Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic.
