Domino's Pizza announced a new pilot project where it will partner with Picnic Works to test out the Picnic Works Pizza Station automation system at several international locations. Domino's has previously tested automated pizza cookers in North America. However, now the fast-food restaurant wants to test its international prospects, as the initial automation pilot project will take place in Berlin, Germany.
Domino's stated that the automation test is intended to increase efficiency, consistency, and taste across its range of pizza products. All while simultaneously freeing up employee time to focus on enhancing the customer experience such as cleaning, preparing more complex items, and more.
Don Meij, the Group CEO and Managing Director of Domino's Pizza Enterprises, stated: "Over the next decade, we intend to more than double the number of stores Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd and our franchisees operate, which means we will need an additional 100,000 team members working across Europe and the Asia-Pacific – the key question will be 'how do we make their roles as rewarding as possible so they can deliver the best possible service for our customers?'" Noting that automation is an exciting prospect for addressing expansion questions as well.
