Interior architecture firm Ofist designed the 'Karakoy loft,' a luxurious penthouse loft located in Istanbul, Turkey.
The redesign objective was to optimize for natural light and view. The architects did so by enlarging the windows on the front facade, as well as installing folding window frames that have a double-function of transforming the living area into a walk-on balcony. Finally, the architects installed a skylight above the mezzanine.
As the loft is for a single person, the designers wanted to keep the plan simple and efficient. They evaluated the space as a whole, opting to keep the layout as continuous and uninterrupted as possible. To enhance this continuity, all of the surfaces throughout the mezzanine were coated in a cement-based material.
