As part of a new series called 'Pastry Portrait,' luxury sweets maker Ladurée is collaborating with artist Marina Abramović to "translate her memories and identity into an edible experience."
The bespoke, limited-edition macarons are packaged in triangular boxes of three and draw parallels between the sugar, which can only be enjoyed for a certain amount of time before it dissolves and disappears entirely, and artist's conceptual performances that are similarly bound by time.
The treats are stamped with Abramović‘s family crest, wrapped in gold leaf and leave blue stains behind on one's tongue. In terms of taste, the sweets are said to be strong, and capture the essence of Abramović's favorite smells, colors, natural landscapes and childhood memories. To determine the taste, a Papillae Questionnaire was used to refine "the concepts that should be in turn translated to flavors."
