Paper Beer Bottles

Carlsberg is Aiming to Create 100% Bio-Based & Fully Recyclable Packaging

Carlsberg is getting closer to creating the world's first-ever paper beer bottle and it is ultimately aiming to come up with a solution that's made from sustainably sourced wood fibres that's both 100% bio-based and fully recyclable. As part of its work in this area, the beer brand is now sharing two prototypes of its Green Fibre Bottle, powered by paper bottle technology.

Both of the prototypes are made from sustainably sourced wood fibre and have an inner barrier so that beer can be contained within the forms. While one solution uses a thin layer of recycled PET polymer film, the other is a 100% bio-based PEF polymer film barrier. Carlsberg is continuing to develop a completely bio-based bottle without polymers and this project reinforces its goal to reduce its carbon footprint.
