Diageo Developed a 100% Plastic-Free Paper-Based Spirits Bottle

Diageo is introducing what it calls the world's first-ever 100% plastic-free paper-based spirits bottle, which is made from sustainably sourced wood. In early 2021, consumers can expect to see the new innovative and eco-friendly packaging solution containing Johnnie Walker.

This paper-based packaging design came about thanks to a new partnership with venture management company Pilot Lite to launch Pulpex Limited as a sustainable packaging technology company. The fully recyclable paper-based bottle is food-safe and offers brands a different way to package their products, especially liquid goods.

Spirit brands tend to default to glass as a packaging material, which is a quality recyclable material, but innovators across the industry are developing paper-based solutions that are exceptionally lightweight and even more eco-friendly.
