These New Palm Oil Seeds from Musim Mas Mature in 25 Months

These palm oil seeds have been released by the Musim Mas palm oil corporation as a series of varieties that could increase the yields of the plants. The four new varieties include the GS1, GS2, GS3 and GS4, which are of the dura x pisifera (DxP) variety, and are reported to deliver three-times higher yields when compared to the industry standard. This results in 10-tonnes of oil being produced per hectare with plants that can begin fruiting within a 25 month period, which is in contrast to the traditional 30 months for standard varieties.

Director of Strategy and Planning TK Lim commented on the new palm oil seeds saying, "At Musim Mas, our strategy is to increase our production through improved yields and not land expansion. This ideology is a key part of how we see our role as a responsible palm oil producer. With the world’s population expected to cross 9 billion by 2050, we hope the Musim Mas GS series will play a valuable role towards improved yields in the long term."
