Trader Joe's is shaking up the snacking game yet again with the debut of its new Norwegian Sourdough Rye Chips.
For those unfamiliar, rye bread is a type of bread that's made with various proportions of flour from rye grain and is often dark in color (though not always). Rye is also well known for its distinctive flavor, which is strong, nutty, and earthy, especially compared to white bread. Trader Joe’s Norwegian Sourdough Rye Chips draw on this intense flavor profile by working with a bakery in Norway that bakes fresh rye bread from a wheat and rye sourdough mix that includes whole-grain rye berries, sunflower seeds, and flax seeds. The bread is then thinly sliced, fried in sunflower oil, and salted to create curved and crunchy chips with a distinctive nutty flavor.
