Millennial Non-Voter Workshops

This Non-Voting Booth Asked Young People Why They Didn't Vote

In an effort to better understand why millennials didn't vote in the recent American midterm elections, a group of students set up this non-voting booth to ask them. A class from the School of Visual Arts Products of Design program set up the booth in Washington Square Park located in Downtown Manhattan. Whether young voting-age members of the population are apathetic, making a political choice or lacking faith in the political system, this politics and design workshop wanted to get to the bottom of it.

The non-voting booth invited people to adhere a sticker with a commonly listed reason not to vote to the booth, or else list their own. One of the students behind the project, Steve Hamilton noted "Most of the logic boils down to people saying 'I don't feel like my vote matters.' There are a lot of different ways of saying that."
