American architect Thomas Phifer has introduced the Museum of Modern Art in the central area of Warsaw, Poland. The building is defined by two large boxes that are stacked on top of one another. The museum is complete with Phifer's signature minimal aesthetic throughout the interior and exterior forms. It has angular double staircases inside, which raise up to the glazed ceiling and fill the remaining area with light.
The staircase is meant to function as a "playful social space for people to stop and talk" according to the designer. Phifer speaks about the design notion, sharing that "It was important we had no barrier. We want to see people come through on their way to and from work or school. This [the museum] has been conceived as a public space."
