Cross-Laminated Timber Garages

Motiv Architects' Eton Accessory Building is Located in Vancouver

Vancouver-based firm Motiv Architects' latest project is a contemporary garage built with cross-laminated timber materials. While the material is commonly used in large scale projects, Asher DeGroot and Tracey Mactavish of Motiv Architects wanted to showcase the material's versatility with a smaller scale project.

Named the Eton Accessory Building, the garage is located in an alley and is connected to a nearby residence through a central garden space. The structure was built to house a home owner's vintage Mustang while also functioning as a production and workshop space for a bag and belt brand.

Measuring just 330 square feet in size, the cross-laminated timber structure boasts a pre-fabricated, simplistic design. Cross-laminted timber (CLT) is an engineered wood material that is best known for being cost-effective, eco-friendly, flexible and for offering thermal insulation thanks to its layered fabrication.
