A stoic, monolithic home has been erected in Perth, Australia by architecture studio MORQ. The project was dubbed the 'Cloister House' and it features a very interesting balance of opposing aesthetics.
The project called for "a sheltered place of refuge" and it was commissioned by a couple. As a result, the studio took privacy and design into great consideration. The monolithic home boasts a strong and dominating aesthetic. Moreover, the silhouette of the building is striking in and of itself as the exterior is almost windowless which is an interesting touch. MORQ balanced this brutalist character out with the infusion of an internal courtyard that is abundant in vegetation, creating an intuitive balance between the monolithic home and lush, natural manifestations.
