Pedro Livni Arquitecto gives a modern cafe design extension to this heritage-listed building in Montevideo, Uruguay. The establishment — La Linda, is an artisanal cafe and bakery that has been operating since 1927. The design studio does a great job in preserving the historic value of the building, while still incorporating a full-glazed extension. The structural addition is commissioned because the house did not have enough room for the expanding La Linda.
The new modern cafe design grants the bakery a place in the courtyard, which, in a way, enhances the consumer's experience by giving them a semi-framed patio space with a nice garden. In addition, the glazed walls allow for patrons to witness and observe the food production.
