The loss of a child is incredibly heartbreaking and tragic, and the Miranda Hutton 'Rooms' Project aims to uncover the memories left behind by these loved ones through photographing their old bedrooms.
Beginning in 2003, the London-based photographer began taking pictures of a deceased friend's nearly untouched room, mostly for the benefit of the family. From this sprang an ongoing project, taking Hutton around England, photographing the bedrooms of children whose rooms remain as they left them. Many of the photographs act as a sort of time capsule, with some of the children having passed on as many as 11 years ago.
Old posters, stuffed animals and school bags decorate the pictures in a haunting way that some might find almost creepy, but the photographs act as a therapeutic tool for many families, allowing them to hold on to the memories while continuing on with their lives.
The Miranda Hutton Rooms Project is incredibly touching, and acts as a study of human emotions and memory.
