Redesigned London Nightclubs

OMA's Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli Redesigned the Ministry of Sound

Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, a partner at the massive architecture firm OMA, has recently released the new design for the 'Ministry of Sound,' an influential London nightclub that's been running since the 90s. Though Laparelli himself notes that nightlife "...is dying off in European cities," the architect hopes that his new design for the ministry of sound will better align the nightclub with the current zeitgeist.

Designing the Ministry of Sound meant balancing two equally important principles: experimentalism on the one hand and safety on the other. For experimenting, the architecture itself is unique. The Ministry of Sound building will be able to morph over the course of the day, with a sliding facade that can reveal shopfronts during waking hours and hide the mysteries of the club in the evenings.

In terms of safety, the club adopts kits from mid-century Italian architects that can quickly be taken apart and put together, solving fire safety and structural integrity issues.
