Iceland Foods Switched Packaging for Its Minced Meat Products

Iceland Foods has announced a a packaging update for its minced meat products that's targeted towards reducing food waste, improving shelf life and also reducing material usage.

The packaging is characterized by its airtight profile that's rated to increase the shelf life of beer and pork minced meat products by nearly 50%. The products will thus maintain about two and a half weeks of additional freshness on shelves, while also reducing the amount of materials used in the process. The packaging is reported to contain 50% less plastic than the conventional plastic trays used by the brand.

Category Buying Manager for Fresh Meat and Poultry Zach Nowell spoke on the new Iceland minced meat products packaging saying, "Our new vacuum-packaged beef mince means our customers are getting the same quality-assured beef mince they love, but with an even longer shelf life. We’re thrilled to also be leading the way as the first UK supermarket to roll out this packaging for pork mince. Now more than ever it’s important for families to get the best value for money when doing their weekly shopping, and our new packaging offers a wider selection of longer-lasting quality products."
