'Pause Fest' is a technology and culture festival that has been running for many years—but this year it decided to try something different, allowing a small group of volunteers to gain access to the event through microchip implant tickets.
10 participants were microchipped Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne, granting them a three-day pass to the festival. Beyond being of use at the festival, the chips have also been programmed to unlock the doors to one's home, gym, workplace and more. In a few months, the volunteers from the project will report how useful they found the implanted chips to be.
While the idea of microchip implants have long been associated with a sci-fi future, some companies are now experimenting with microchips to help grant entry through locked doors and transportation systems.
