Low-Income Assisted Care

Mia Senior Living Solutions Offers Affordable Services

Founded in 1995, Mia Senior Living Solutions is a social business providing affordable care and living facilities for seniors in Florida. Conchy Bretos, the CEO and founder, was named one of America's Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs of 2011 by Bloomberg Businessweek and was also awarded an Ashoka fellowship in 2010. In the 1990s, she was Florida's secretary of aging and adult services and according to Businessweek, "saw senior citizens living in decrepit public housing," which prompted her to create assisted-living programs for low-income seniors.

What is more, Bretos wished to find a way to help people who were prematurely placed in a nursing home. "Our mission is to produce as many affordable assisted-living beds as we can," she told Businessweek.
