On November 9th, 2020, Google debuted a new Doodle on its search page in honor of Canadian-American actor, comedian, and singer, Marie Dressler.
The illustration shows the 1930s film star surrounded by a set up show curtains, paying homage to her performances that often featured her "signature style of raucous slapstick humor." Going on to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood at the time, Dressler challenged stereotypes and paved the way for many other women in comedy. Before starring in films, Dressler started acting with stock companies at just 14 years of age, and later put on vaudeville, burlesque, and revue performances—which eventually landed her on Broadway.
The Marie Dressler Google Doodle celebrates the Oscar-winner's 152nd birthday, and remembers her contributions to the film industry.
