The MAD Symposium is Returning with a Focus on Social Justice

René Redzepi’s MAD symposium is set to return to Copenhagen in the summer of 2018 and will see a gathering of chefs, restaurant owners and food world leaders descend onto the city. Redzepi, best known as the chef and owner of Noma, began the symposium in 2011 with the focus always being on food and dining. While previous years have focused on more technological innovation, or technical practice, this year's MAD symposium will engage in discussions on improving the industry for women, immigrants and people of color.

MAD, which was founded as a nonprofit organization in 2011, is dedicated to the advancement of the culinary arts and this year's focus was carefully chosen to reflect the recent stories that have impacted the restaurant community and world at large. The hope is that this year's MAD symposium will lead to meaningful change in the restaurant industry and address the issues brought to light.

Speakers for MAD 6 have yet to be announced, but previous years featured big names such as David Chang, Alex Atala, Massimo Bottura and Ferran Adrià.
