Lypid Makes Plant-Based Burger Patties with Animal-Like Fat

PhytoFat is the proprietary ingredient that gives the plant-based patties from Lypid the texture, mouthfeel, transfer of flavor and cooking properties of animal fats. The San Francisco-based food tech start-up is a specialist in alternative meat and fat and "In the current market, 'fat' is the missing ingredient in the majority of plant-based meats. Vegan oils used today simply melt and leak out of the food matrices due to lower melting points," says to Dr. Michelle Lee, Co-founder and CTO of Lypid.

Lypid's PhytoFat (made from 97% vegan oils and water) maintains its animal fat-like qualities when cooked above 329 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lypid's newly announced partnership with Taiwan's largest coffeehouse company, Louisa Coffee, will bring the innovative plant-based burger patties to more than 500 shops across the nation.
