Croatian architectural lighting and design studio Skira produced 'Lighting Giants,' a project that transforms hulking pieces of industrial machinery into a beautiful public work of art. Skira projected colorful beams of light onto shipyard cranes in the Croatian town of Pula. The cranes themselves were positioned to look like the popular origami paper cranes.
Lighting Giants' color coordination is controlled by a remote system that offers control over more than 16,000 color combinations. The installation displays a different color each hour, showing specific color combinations for about 15 minutes at a time before shifting to the next hue of red, blue, yellow or green.
This spectacular project successfully makes use of otherwise rusty looking industrial equipment and transforms into a gigantic installation that brings a whimsical sense of fantasy to the waterfront. Photo Credits: designboom, skira.hr
