Encased Lampshade Lighting

Light Air by Eugeni Quitllet is a Surreal Version of Traditional Lamps

Light Air is aptly named considering that it plays on the idea of negative space. It takes a traditional table lamp and turns it on its head. This is achieved by way of getting rid of the stand and base only to replace it with a transparent box that keeps the lampshade suspended where it usually would be. As though part of a magic trick, Light Air is visually striking in a surreal and modern way.

Designed by Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet for Kartell, Light Air is made using methacrylate, which is the most transparent plastic used in the car industry. According to Design Milk, "The material contains conical parabola within it that helps diffuse the light rays."
