A number of social media and online study tools have become available to students over the last couple of years, and now one platform, Kroupys, is helping students from different colleges and universities in the Netherlands connect via social media.
Kroupys operates using a Q&A format, allowing users to acquire information and knowledge from other students at other schools who are in the same field of study. As Springwise puts it, "The idea is that they can gain insight from those learning on related courses at other universities, as well as connecting with peers with similar interests." Students using the Kroupys platform can log into the system with their Twitter or Facebook accounts and follow other Kroupys users from other schools, as well as follow specific questions for which they need answers.
To encourage students to actively participate and respond to questions, Kroupys awards respondents based on how 'useful' their answers are. The more 'useful' votes they get, the more points they gain towards rewards like dinner vouchers and event tickets.
