At its Madeira, Ohio location, Kroger is introducing a smart shopping cart called KroGo that supports a seamless experience. Powered by Caper, the cart is complete with its own built-in scale and camera, so that shoppers are able to scan and bag items themselves as they navigate through the store's aisles. The cart also gives shoppers the ability to pay straight from the cart and exit the store via the self-checkout area.
The smart shopping cart is being implemented at a time when the ways people are shopping in-store are changing. This technology not only helps to provide a more streamlined experience overall but also helps to minimize the need for contact between staff and guests, plus it eliminates the need for people to congregate in lines as they wait to pay.
