The new video for 'Disconnected' by Keane is a tremendous example of the potential that music videos have for combining short narratives with compelling music. Disconnected is filmed by Juan Antonio Bayona and Sergio G. Sánchez, the filmmakers who made the horror movie The Orphanage.
The video revolves around the familiar horror story of a happy couple moving into a mansion only to find out that it's haunted. Switching between the point of view of the husband, the wife and the band, the story remains ambiguous in terms of who is the victim and who is the assailant. Reminiscent of Stanely Kubrick's The Shining, Disconnected is beautifully shot and eerily captivating.
The film ends with the suggestion that the events were just a part of a bad dream, or a premonition of things to come.
