Architectural designer Julia van Beuningen adds a spiral staircase made from plywood materials in a thatched barn located in Gelderland, the Netherlands. It is now a residence space with the new transformation of the building, naming it the Barn at the Ahof. It functions as a rental home with four bedrooms and a large open-plan living space.
The highlighting feature is the plywood staircase which is made by manufacturer EeStairs. It is right in the heart of the floor plan with a curvaceous shape that playfully contrasts the barn's rustic look. Van Beuningen tells Dezeen that "We thought, if we're going to do something, we have to do it properly. This is very different and very unusual in a barn like this. It's something you either love or hate, but it's definitely a statement."
