Not only do they produce oxygen and look great lining a sidewalk, trees can be wonderful art canvases.
As Jessica Rath’s latex-painted tree shows, all you need is imagination and a paintbrush to turn a tree into a natural work of art. Rath’s recent installation at the Ben Maltz gallery at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles showcased a truncated, serpentine-branched apricot tree, which she created out of the painted mold of the tree in her backyard. She appropriately titled it "Tree Peel."
The trend is budding, as other (probably bored) artists turn to their yards and gardens with cans of paint. Devilish red, bold blue – take your pick, but choose water-based paint so you don’t end up killing your tree instead.
