Grotesque Snack Packaging

These Illustrated Monster Wrappers Depict Consumers When They're Hungry

When your hungriness turns to angriness which morphs into hangriness, do you come to resemble these illustrated monster wrappers -- in spirit, anyway? Alena Zhokina wanted to capture this notion of bad attitudes associated with starving states by cartooning malformed animal images on #MOE vegetable bar packaging.

Using herbivorous creatures as the faces of the three different flavors, the designer doodled crazy eyes, uneven ears and big borne teeth. With this line of healthy snacks targeted to children and adolescents, the illustrated monster wrappers were given ridiculous but relatable features, such as braces worn on the chompers of a carrot-eating rabbit. Using text to further secure the attention of this youthful consumer base, the name of the product begins with a hashtag, scribbled in scratchy letters and emboldened with a bright color.
