American artist and photographer Ian Sailer uses a high-speed camera to capture the exact moment a particular everyday object begins to explode when he shoots it with a pellet rifle. Starting off in his garage, Sailer, an engineer, uses a homemade flash to capture the explosions of fruit, Christmas tree decorations and eggs that he fills with paint or jello. The results are incredible.
Sailer's Flickr account is full of his experimental photography, but my personal favorite is of a strawberry. His images have even been compared to that of Horaold Edgerton, who instead focused his thousandth of a second captures on nuclear explosions. The intricate and detail end result of each photo is breathtaking. Additionally, each of the images is somehow different, and would make an awesome set of framed prints for any hip household.
