Design firm Policronica has taken on a design project that transforms the interior space of Hotel Elysée Montmartre in Paris. It has almost exclusively used a single species of wood to align with the monochrome interior. It is defined by the architectural woodwork and the wooden furniture throughout the space. Almost all of the elements of the hotel is custom designed at the firm's workshop in Lisbon using locally gathered eucalyptus wood.
Architect Julien Labrousse speaks to Dezeen about the project, sharing "In contrast to the typical approaches to hotel interior design, often addressed in a more ensemble-focused logic, we aimed for this project to design and manufacture 100 per cent of the hotel's elements: the furnishings, lighting and handles. Without repetitive shipping from one point to another, as in traditional schemes, our production is extremely low in carbon."
