By combining the handwriting of homeless people, an Arrels Foundation initiative called Homeless Fonts is creating a new typeface. The Barcelona-based non-governmental organization teamed up with The Cyranos McCann ad agency to bring hope to people who live on the streets.
They first collected handwriting samples and then cleaned them up and compiled them in a studio. The resulting homeless fonts can be see on the NGO's website. All proceeds from this project will be donated to the Arrels Foundation to aid their endeavors in helping the homeless. The new typefaces can be used commercially for ads, emails, packaging and even posters for brands to use in their advertising and communication. For example, the Lorraine font is used on bottles and Valonga products.
