This Organization Helps Educate China's HIV-Positive Children

The Green Harbor Red-Ribbon School is a Chinese boarding school that helps educate HIV-positive children. In many parts of China, an HIV diagnosis comes with an intense stigma. This stigma means that HIV-positive patients are often turned away from schools, jobs and even hospitals.

The Green Harbor Red-Ribbon School was opened in order to ensure China's HIV-positive children get the education they need. The school houses about 30 children between the ages of six and 19. These children come to Green Harbor because they were turned away from the regular school system. The boarding school ultimately provides a refuge for HIV-positive children to escape the stigma that often follows their diagnosis.

The Green Harbor school demonstrates the need to combat the stigma surrounding HIV in order to ensure that children are not denied the education they deserve.
