Het Orakel by Atelier Van Lieshout is an artfully crafted sculptural piece that takes on the form of an oversized human head. The 4 meter tall art piece was presented at the Amsterdam Dam square yesterday May 5th, 2014 in celebration of Netherlands' Freedom of Speech laws.
The oversized sculpture named ‘Het Orakel’, meaning ‘The Oracle’ spoke to a crowd of gathered people who surrounded it. The sculpture shared with them a series of raw and unfiltered statements that celebrated the freedoms given to Dutch citizens following the end of second world war.
Het Orakel by Atelier Van Lieshout was strategically positioned in front of a symbolic Royal Palace backdrop and within view of the National Monument that are both representative of the nation's long and rich history.
Using a process of SMS translation, the sculpture received the crowd's messages, later saying them out loud using a human-like voice system.
