A stunning Hawaiian beachfront house was recently built on the northern coast of Kauai. The architectural firm responsible for the development is the Seattle-based studio Olson Kundig Architects who emphasized an intricate design with modern and slick sensibilities. The Hawaiian beachfront house is called Hale Napo'o "which translates to Sunset House."
The U-shaped dwelling features wooden storm shutters and deep roof overhangs, creating a functional retreat that embraces the natural landscape and allows for breezes from Hanalei Bay. Olson Kundig Architects installed a hipped roof design, glass facade, and horizontal cedar siding in a bid to pay homage to local architect CW "Pop" Dickey.
The Hawaiian beachfront house blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living because of its operable wooden screens. They provide storm protection, security, and passive ventilation.
