Nature Appreciation Abodes

The Haines House by Christopher Polly is Like Living Under the Stars

The Christopher Polly-designed Haines House ensures you can enjoy nature without leaving the modern-day comforts of your home. Polly gave the semi-detached house, located in Sydney, Australia, a fresh update and new addition. The goal of the project was to enhance the view and access to the rear garden. The goal was accomplished utilizing the existing roof plane and extending it for an open-plan volume.

The architect explains, "An arrangement of fine steel plate supports and highlight windows march along the entire low roof, bridging the high and low roofs and wrapping to the rear to enable access to natural ventilation, views to neighboring landscapes, sky and natural light."

The end result is a home that blurs the line between indoors and outdoors for greater appreciation of the natural elements
