Chef Robert Didie's Golden Bread is Made with Champagne and Gold Flakes

There's something that's nice about a perfectly golden bread with a nice crust, but chef Robert Didie's bread recipe is a little more golden than usual.

Back in the 1500s, royal bakers used to produce loaves of bread that communicated the status of the prominent lord or king that it was being prepared for. Often times, this would mean that the bread included unusual ingredients purely for the sake of show. Inspired by this kind of opulence, chef Didie tweaked a 30,000 year old bread recipe and added some of today's little luxuries to it, including edible 24-carat gold flakes and champagne.

The decadent golden bread by chef Didie will be launched at the Hamper Llangollen food festival in October.
