Italian designer Luca Nichetto designed the unique Gèmo lighting collection for Spanish lighting manufacturer Parachilna. Parachilna is recognized for its work in collaboration with iconic designers with as Jaime Hayon, Stephen Burns and Heri&Hu in the past. This time, the label joined Nichetto in creating the Gèmo series from mouth-blown glass pieces. The shades of the lights look as if they have been deconstructed, then reconstructed with a new shape and textured surface. The word "Gèmo" translates to "yarn ball" in Venetian, and the shape and textures of the surface appear to look like wrapped strings.
The linear design of the surface is created using a design technique called "molatura," where craftsman directly engrave the lines onto the glass. The texture is most prominent when the dimmable illumination is on, highlighting the grooves of the design. The Gèmo lighting collection is comprised of four different versions -- there are floor lamps, two table lamps and a pendant lamp. Each one gives the option of either a matte nickel finish or a black chrome finish.
