'Glace et Chocolat,' a new ice cream shop adjoining the popular 'A Tes Souhaits!' bakery in Tokyo's Kichijoji neighborhood, is designed to reflect its wares. Nendo design studio created the shop to look like layers of an ice cream cake in the process of melting into one another.
In designing Glace et Chocolat, Nendo opted for darker tones that one might expect from an ice cream shop. Rather than pastel blues, rosy pinks, and creamy whites, Glace et Chocolat's walls are clad in rich and deep browns. The sections of wallpaper each have horizontal striations in these colors, and the panels are slightly offset from one another vertically. The overall effect is thus one of dripping and melting, enticing customers to make a purchase before it's too late and the ice cream's all gone.
