In protest of the jailing of Ai Weiwei by the Chinese government, fellow artist Anish Kapoor has created his own Gangnam Style tribute. Ai Weiwei is one of China’s most prominent contemporary artists. His mediums include sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film and social, political and cultural criticism. He was recently detained by security officials before boarding a flight to Hong Kong.
Kapoor produced this Gangnam Style tribute as a viral protest ploy to draw attention to the suppressive activities of the Chinese government and champion freedom of expression, specifically in the case of Ai Weiwei. "It is our hope that this gesture of support for Ai Weiwei and all prisoners of conscience will be wide-ranging and will help to emphasize how important these freedoms are to us all."
The Gangam Style tribute will be shown at galleries and museums across the world.
