Future of Teen Magazines

Future Of Teen Magazines

I've been writing a lot about the future of teen magazines. You can check out my column in November's Media magazine to get the full scoop on what I think. Here's the bottom line: magazines have to become ubiquitous. The magazine is the platform for the brand, and must extend to TV, the Internet, mobile, and grassroots. So what are the trends I'm predicting:

1. Increase in onliine staff at magazines.
2. Digital launches - think cooler web sites, interactive tech.
3. Widening celebrity pool. You can't keep seeing the same four girls on the covers!
4. More interesting features. Mags have to get cooler with consumers going to lipstick.com and myspace.com for cool content.
Trend Themes
1. Increase in Online Staff at Magazines - Opportunity for magazines to invest in online talent and resources to create engaging digital content and better connect with their audience.
2. Digital Launches - Opportunity for magazines to leverage interactive technology and develop innovative websites to deliver an immersive and dynamic reading experience.
3. Widening Celebrity Pool - Opportunity for magazines to feature a diverse range of celebrities on their covers, appealing to a broader audience and expanding their brand visibility.
Industry Implications
1. Publishing - Disruptive innovation opportunities for publishers to transform their traditional print magazines into multi-platform media brands and leverage the power of digital channels.
2. Digital Media - Disruptive innovation opportunities for digital media companies to collaborate with magazines and enhance their interactive content offerings through partnerships.
3. Celebrity Endorsement - Disruptive innovation opportunities for celebrity endorsement agencies to tap into the growing demand for a diverse range of celebrities in magazine covers and content collaborations.
