Amy Schumer Tackles Rape Culture in Her Friday Night Lights Parody

Amy Schumer made a powerful commentary about rape culture and sports in her Friday Night Lights parody.

Schumer plays a supporting role as the boozy wife of a high school football coach in a small town. The coach has an "unorthodox" condition for players on his team: no raping. He is faced with disbelief and rage from players, parents and townspeople: "But how will they celebrate when they win? And blow off steam when they lose?", one local wonders incredulously, before spitting on the coach's lawn.

Perhaps the crown jewel of the sketch, however, is the half-time pep talk, which draws a clear and disturbing correlation between the sporting mentality and rape culture. A sketch about rape that doesn't make jokes at the expense of the victim is rare, but Schumer's Friday Night Lights parody delivers just that.
