The late Italian architect Ettore Sottsass created an impressive portfolio of concept designs and sketches throughout his life and a particular black barrel-roofed pavilion is brought to life for the French Architecture Festival in Orléans.
The pavilion is based on a 2002 sketch, titled 'Architettura Monumentale.' Keeping in mind that Ettore Sottsass drew his inspiration from the Art Deco and Pop Art movements, the architects from 2A+P/A imagined what the hidden sides of the structure would look like. The team shares that "the key was to introduce an abstract yellow structure of columns and beams in the black shell." The yellow framework on the interior of the structure compliments the inevitably harsh exterior and not only adds a little bit of light, but is also in full compliance with the artistic movements in question.
For this year's French Architecture Festival, 2A+P/A will utilize the structure as a pavilion that is host to an art exhibition.
