Cost-Free Modern Homes

This Free Home Can Be Won Through a Lottery Process

This free home was conceptualized to test the homeowner experience.

Designed by 'Muji,' the 'Window House' was previously offered to a family for four years who have now moved out for the home to be won by another family for the next two. Winners are chosen through a lottery process and do not have to pay anything to live in this Japanese home. The process is somewhat conditional, as winners must be able to speak Japanese to participate and must also be consistently monitored. Staff will be around to offer questionnaires about the experience of the homeowners and the previous family that lived in this home wrote a book about their time living under such unusual circumstances.

This unusual concept is an excellent way to get attention as well as do case studies about what lifestyles and designs are preferred by consumers.
