Architecture studios set themselves apart from one another by experimenting with unique styles and forms, but the 'Form is Form' project subverts that notion by consciously combining and co-opting the works of three very distinct studios. The pavilion, which comprises several different structures, was designed jointly by the American studio Johnston Marklee, the Portuguese studio Nuno Brandao Costa, and the Belgian studio Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen.
Form is Form is meant to question notions of authorship in art altogether and architecture in particular. To create the pavilion, the three studios designed buildings in their own styles, but also "stole" ideas from the back catalogs of their partner studios. In this way, the authorship of the complete project is nebulous, evading any single locus.
