FashionAI is the name of a new fashion assistant from Alibaba that merges the online and offline worlds to help consumers locate items from digital sources in-store.
For Singles Day in China, Alibaba installed FashionAI across 13 shopping centers, which involved embedding pieces of clothing with chips so that they could be identified via a digital screen. As well as being useful for helping consumers locate items, FashionAI detects what garments a consumer is trying on in the fitting room and suggests similar or companion pieces.
While there are now several online shopping services that now leverage artificial intelligence to better serve consumers, Alibaba's AI system addresses pain points in both online and offline shopping experiences.
